HP Printer Serial Number Reset [Quick Guide]
HP Printer Serial Number Reset [Quick Guide]
To reset your HP printer’s serial number, then you have to send PJL commands to your printer directly. Hence, you will need to connect your computer to your HP printer using a parallel cable. Once you have made the connection, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Paste the italicized text below into Notepad++ on your computer. Ensure that you replace “{esc}” with the keypress “Alt+027”.
{esc}%-12345X@PJL SET SERVICEMODE=HPBOISEID
@PJL DEFAULT SERIALNUMBER=CNFX123456
@PJL DEFAULT MODELNUMBER=“C1234B”
@PJL SET SERVICEMODE=EXIT
@PJL RESET
{esc}%-12345X
Step 2: Save the note as a regular text file.
Step 3: Copy the text file using FTP.
i. Open the command prompt on your computer.
ii. Type in “ftp {printer-hostname}” That is, if your printer’s hostname is 170.245.234.7, then you’ll type in ftp 170.245.234.7.
iii. Do not enter anything in the username field; just press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.
iv. Do not enter anything in the password field; just press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.
v. Type “send {file path}”. The “file path” is the location of the text file you saved. So, if yours is C:\temp\170.245.234.7.txt, then that is what you should type after typing “send”.
vi. This command will then be processed in a few seconds.
vii. Exit the FTP by typing “quit”.
Step 4: Print a configuration page to see the serial number that just got updated.
